Behind the music

About 4am Kru.

4am Kru are a London jungle duo formed around producers Howie and Stu. They first met while playing in bands on the city’s live circuit and continued writing together. The idea for the project took shape in late 2019, when they realised they were spending much of their studio time playing old jungle records in Tottenham.

Their early releases looked back to the sound and spirit of 1990s rave. In a 2021 interview, the pair described Good Time as a tribute to the darker side of 1993 jungle, and explained how writing and live performance both fed the project. Their backgrounds also gave them different working habits: Stu spoke about assembling recorded sounds on a laptop, while Howie described writing at his Rhodes and Roland D-50.

Their debut album, Incognito Rhythm, followed in September 2024. Released in a partially mixed format, it brought together the pair’s own tracks and collaborations across an hour-long sequence. The record includes High Time and Pianos Raining Down, with additional contributors drawn from the wider crew.

That collaborative approach continued with Love On The Line EP, an EP with Layla Sibelle released in March 2026.
