Behind the music
About Amplify.
Amplify is a drum and bass DJ and producer associated with jump-up. His development in the studio accelerated during lockdown, when remote collaboration became part of his daily routine. In 2021, he was exchanging ideas through Discord and working regularly with Master Error, who also helped him develop his production skills.
With Metal Work, Amplify founded Gradient Records in 2020. The jump-up imprint became a home for his own music and releases by other producers in their circle. Running it alongside his recording work gave him a way to support those collaborators as they developed their own catalogues.
He had initially struggled with production, but learned by repeatedly making drum loops and bass sounds. Sending a batch of tracks to Zombie Recordings led to a six-track release and helped establish how he approached EPs. Once he had made a track he was happy with, he would use it as a benchmark, aiming to bring five more up to the same standard.
