Behind the music

About Ant Miles.

Ant Miles is a drum and bass producer whose studio work is closely tied to the beginnings of RAM Records. A co-founder of the label and the founder of Liftin Spirit, he worked with Andy C as Origin Unknown, helping create records that became part of jungle's early history.

Their Valley Of The Shadows, released in 1993, is the best-known starting point. Miles brought a wider musical background to the studio, including experience with bass, drums, and keyboards. His role also extended to helping other producers turn ideas and samples into finished recordings, as DJ Flatliner recalled when discussing his own early RAM work.

Miles and Andy C continued recording under different names, including Desired State and Concept 2. Origin Unknown's Truly One followed in 1995, while the formation of RAM Trilogy with Shimon created another outlet. The group's early releases led to Molten Beats in 1999, connecting the label's developing sound with a substantial collaborative album.

That history makes Miles more than a name attached to one famous tune. He was involved in the production, partnerships, and label infrastructure through which the music developed. His catalogue is best explored with those aliases in view, each opening a different part of a career built around the studio and the people working in it.
