Bensley

Bensley is a Canadian electronic producer whose music combines drum and bass with melodic writing and changes of tempo. His early releases through RAM Records developed into albums that draw on both his instrumental background and the places where he writes.

His debut album, Next Generation, appeared in 2015. Muskoka followed in 2019, named after the Ontario region where his family spent summers at a lakeside cottage. Much of the music was written there, with the forests, wildlife, and water contributing to its atmosphere. The record includes his alto saxophone on Hard Times and One Last Chance – Remix, plus the Armanni Reign collaboration Do It Again.

Discussing Muskoka with UKF, Bensley recalled that RAM had recognised the potential for his debut album before he realised he was making one. The follow-up gave him room to expand that earlier work with different arrangements and his own playing. Its title track draws on breaks and jungle, including samples intended to evoke animals and birds, while other pieces explore different rhythms. Those details make the album a useful introduction: its character comes from a particular musician and setting, rather than simply from an atmospheric description applied to every track.
