Behind the music

About Captain Bass.

Captain Bass is Joran Alaerts, a Belgian drum and bass DJ and producer from Herne. His younger brother introduced him to jump-up, and a first rave helped turn an interest in the music into an ambition to make it. He began producing at 18.

Jump-up remains central to his history, but his productions have also explored dancefloor drum and bass, dubstep, and psytrance. His agency points to the tempo switches in Remember Me and Voice as examples of that approach, with arrangements that move away from drum and bass before returning to 174 BPM.

Collaboration is another recurring part of his catalogue. Soldiers paired him with Hedex and MC Skywalker, while Jump Up brought him together with Primate and Skywalker. He has described opening a Rampage set with the latter track. His Crucast release Party Animal / When I Enter connects a more recent melodic starting point with a track he identified as a return to his earlier style.
