Behind the music
About Critical Impact.
Critical Impact is a drum and bass producer whose career developed through making records alongside his involvement in the scene as a DJ. Work with Menace Records and nights at Movement kept him close to new music, while encouragement from Bryan Gee helped push him further into production.
His releases subsequently appeared through labels including Formation Records, Chronic, Metalheadz, and Playaz Recordings. Playaz’s authorised biography describes his own music as deep, dark dancefloor rollers. It also records the earlier Will.I.Ain’t alias used for releases on Twisted Individual’s Zombie imprint.
Creeper / Death Wish, made with Break and Skibadee, became closely connected with the Bristol RUN nights. In their UKF interview, D*Minds recalled its impact at RUN All Day and the decision to give Critical Impact’s music a home on the recording label. Their existing friendship was part of how the project came together.
The Sound Boy Killa album followed on RUN in December 2019. Its twelve tracks included collaborations with Coppa, Trigga, Youngman, and DRS, as well as production work with Furniss. Those credits give a clear picture of an album built around both instrumental drum and bass and the different voices invited into it.
