Behind the music

About DJ Phantasy.

DJ Phantasy’s career runs from the late-1980s rave scene into jungle and drum and bass. He is a DJ, producer, promoter, and the figure behind Easy Records.

He took the name DJ Phantasy in September 1989. Thirty years later, he marked that anniversary with Three Generations Deep, an autobiography written with Dave Jenkins. The book recorded experiences from the early rave years as well as the changes that followed, a history he felt needed documenting.

Production became a renewed focus after a period in which he had lost enthusiasm for the studio. Phantasy credits hearing Flux Pavilion’s I Can’t Stop with helping rekindle that interest. He subsequently developed his work with producers including Macky Gee, Erb n Dub, and Futurebound.

As part of SASASAS, he has brought original material into performances built around a collective DJ and MC format. His later collaborations include Bang Bang with Stonebank and Eksman.
