Behind the music

About Flava D.

Flava D's route into drum and bass began with a much wider education in UK dance music. Raised in Bournemouth, Danielle Gooding encountered garage through her family and discovered more styles while working at the town's Strictly Beats record shop. She taught herself production by rebuilding the grime sounds she heard on Channel U, then sent music to MCs and gradually began testing her own tracks in clubs.

Her catalogue developed through garage, grime, and bassline before drum and bass became a sustained focus. Alongside Royal-T and DJ Q, she recorded as TQD, whose album UKG formed another part of that history. Her first Hospital Records appearance, Return To Me, arrived on Sick Music 2019; she joined the label in 2020.

Gooding has described that transition as a practical relearning of production, particularly the relationship between drums and sub-bass. Her debut drum and bass album, Here & Now, followed in 2025. Discussing the record, she explained that she wanted it to work away from clubs as well as on their systems, with liquid material alongside harder tracks.
