Fox

Fox is a Manchester-born MC, singer, and songwriter who grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, before returning to Manchester in the 1990s. His musical identity crosses dancehall, drum and bass, hip-hop, and soul, with the voice providing the link between club hosting and recorded songs.

He began deejaying with Megatone Sound System and worked with Subliminal Darkness before taking time away from his own music. Teaching and supporting younger MCs occupied much of that period. When he returned, his involvement with Manchester nights and collectives grew through Swing Ting, Hoya:Hoya, Hit & Run, and LEVELZ.

His first album, Juice Flow, was released by Swing Ting in 2019. Recorded largely with Samrai at the crew’s Ancoats studio, it brought together collaborators from Manchester and further afield. The record gave Fox space to develop songs under his own name after years of featuring on other artists’ productions.

He followed it with Squang Dangs in the Key of Vibes on The North Quarter in 2021. In interview, Fox described the albums as a way to leave a substantial body of work, with his increasing confidence as a singer expanding what he could express alongside his MC delivery.
