About Hoax.
Hoax is a drum and bass producer and DJ with roots in Devon and a career developed in Bristol. Piano and music theory were part of his musical background before bass music drew him towards production and the underground club scene. His early releases included Crowd Control, followed by work with Hospital Records.
A recurring partnership with vocalist PVC began with Sekkle, released on Anaïs’ Hospital Mixtape. Hoax had written an instrumental and wanted PVC on the track; a connection through Onyx Recordings brought them together. They followed it with Spark It and took that studio partnership into live DJ and MC sets.
That combination of physical basslines and a musical core is reflected in his influences. Speaking to PVC, Hoax singled out Break for bringing soul, heavy bass, and precise production into the same records, and SHY FX for his ability to write songs people connect with.
His later catalogue includes Care 4 U, Genesis, and a rework of Breach’s Jack. He has also worked with SOLAH on Wings.
