Behind the music

About Hugh Hardie.

Hugh Hardie is a Cambridge-raised drum and bass producer whose music draws on funk, soul, and collaborative writing. His early catalogue developed through Hospital Records, following early attention for tracks including Tearing Me Apart and Wide Eyes. His debut album, Colourspace, followed in 2017, with Shadows & Silhouettes arriving in 2019.

During lockdown he set himself the challenge of completing a track each day for a week, resulting in 7 Tunes In 7 Days. Recalling the exercise in 2026, he described how the deadline helped him make decisions without endlessly revisiting them. His later Inhale Exhale EP continued the liquid strand of his catalogue while also making room for darker material.

Hardie moved to Soulvent Records in 2022, and released his third album, Juicebox, the following year. That record widened his vocal partnerships, bringing grime and soundsystem voices into the project. Collaboration remained central to the 2026 Hugh Hardie & Friends EP. He has described his studio approach as following an idea wherever it leads, including occasions when a tune starts as liquid and develops into something much darker.
