Behind the music
About IMANU.
IMANU is the project of Rotterdam-based producer and DJ Jonathan Immanuel Kievit, who first released music as Signal. In 2019 he changed the name and opened up the music, moving beyond the expectations that had formed around his earlier drum and bass records.
The first IMANU releases came through Vision Recordings. Although D&B remained part of the work, it sat beside slower tracks and a growing interest in vocals. His own website documents collaborations with Noisia and other electronic musicians, reflecting a catalogue that has never stayed at one tempo.
The 2022 debut album Unfold brought that approach into a longer project, with songs, bass music, and club rhythms sharing the same space. In a later DJ Mag interview, he described changing the way he wrote after a period of writer's block, building tracks from their opening sounds towards the drop.
