About IYRE.
IYRE brings Sri Lankan musical textures into drum and bass, combining flowing melodies with deeper, stripped-back production. Raised in Sri Lanka and later based in the UK, he developed an approach in which the sounds of home have an active place in the music, as part of his approach to composition.
The Goldfat release Āśrama drew on the landscape around Sri Lanka’s Knuckles mountains and a Buddhist hermitage. Water, chanting and the atmosphere of that setting helped shape a record rooted in a particular place. In his early interviews as IYRE, he described using those influences alongside the production language of drum and bass, giving his melodies and percussion a personal frame of reference.
Further releases have reached Hospital, Soulvent, Pilot. and UKF, while his Rinse FM residency has given him another regular outlet. Liquid and deep, minimal drum and bass both feature in his recorded work.
