Koherent

Deep in the music.
Closer to the artist.

Koherent are a drum and bass duo formed in Leeds, combining liquid songwriting and minimal production across Shogun Audio, Dispatch and Flexout releases.

Behind the music

About Koherent.

Koherent grew out of a friendship between Josh and Luke in Leeds, bringing together two producers with different starting points. Josh leaned towards liquid, Luke towards heavier music; working together gave each a reason to explore the other’s taste. Their shared interest in space and restrained production became the connection between those sounds.

A debut single on SGN:LTD in 2017 introduced the partnership, followed by the Depth Charge EP on Dispatch Recordings and Morph on Flexout Audio. The darker records kept the percussion and low end prominent without filling every gap, establishing a minimal approach that could still work on a busy dancefloor.

Joining Shogun Audio led to Turning Point in 2019. The duo deliberately wanted the EP split between liquid and heavier material, and Friction selected two tracks from each side. Voices, with Charli Brix, brought an R&B and synthwave influence into their liquid writing, while Ill Truth joined them on Samsara.

The Second Storm EP continued that direction, with Bliss and Endless Haze among the releases around it. Koherent’s music is worth approaching from both directions: the melodic records and the stripped-back tracks reflect the same partnership. Their attention to what sits between the drums and bass helps keep that identity recognisable as the mood changes.
