Behind the music
About LaMeduza.
LaMeduza is the vocalist and songwriter Krizia Bassanini, whose work brings together her Italian and Spanish roots with a background in trip-hop and electronic music. Based in Switzerland, she studied performing arts at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, moving from musical theatre into songwriting while training as a vocal coach.
Her recording work includes collaborations with Phase and the Subjective partnership of Goldie and James Davidson. After Goldie heard Shore to Shore, her contribution to Phase’s album, she was invited to record for Subjective’s The Start of No Regret.
Her 2022 LaMeduza EP for Overview Music placed her own vision at the centre. She recruited Bredren, Phase, Solace, Waeys, and GROUND around a theme of elements, drawing inspiration from The Fifth Element. Organic instruments and a cinematic mood helped connect the different productions, while she also worked on the accompanying videos.
Her approach to writing can begin with a melody, a phrase, or a few words gathered while travelling. As well as studio collaborations and vocal coaching, she performs live, improvising melodies and hooks over DJ sets rather than treating every performance as a fixed song arrangement.
