Behind the music
About Macky Gee.
Macky Gee is a British drum and bass producer and DJ best known for jump-up records built around instantly recognisable riffs. Tour, released on Elevate Records in September 2017, became a defining record in his catalogue, but his music stretches beyond that one tune.
He started mixing as a child and played his first club set at 16, gradually moving into production. His own Down 2 Earth Musik label has served both as a home for his records and a place to introduce other producers. In a SoundCloud interview, he described an almost constant flow of new music, with audience feedback helping him decide what to develop and release.
The 2018 album Moments captures that willingness to try different things. Although jump-up remained central, he told UKF that he had also made liquid, rollers, and more experimental material, with the album intended for listening as well as playing out. Its guests included Skepsis and fellow SASASAS members. The track Active took it into experimental halftime, a further change of pace within the same project.
