Behind the music

About Marcus Intalex.

Marcus Intalex was Marcus Kaye, a drum and bass producer and DJ from Burnley whose career became closely tied to Manchester. His musical interests also extended into house and techno, which he explored under the name Trevino.

He founded Soul:r with ST Files in 2001. The label and its Soul:ution nights gave him space to develop a catalogue and share music by other producers, alongside his own recording and DJ work.

His album 21 was released in 2011, its title marking twenty-one years in music. That breadth of experience included working at Manchester's Eastern Bloc record shop, where he described listening to deliveries and learning from the music passing through the store.

His beginnings as a DJ were less polished: after complaining about a local club's music, he was given old decks to practise on and eventually a night of his own. That early enthusiasm developed into a career spent making, selecting, and supporting music.

Following his death in 2017, the Marcus Intalex Music Foundation was established to continue his interest in encouraging new talent, through workshops, studio sessions, and events.
