Behind the music

About Salaryman.

Salaryman approaches drum and bass through a deliberately broad set of influences. Based in Lille, France, he draws on dub, hip-hop, reggae, trip-hop, metal, and jazz, bringing those interests into a catalogue released through labels including RAM Records, ProgRAM, Technique, and Fokuz.

He discovered drum and bass in the early 2000s after several years exploring electronic music, then moved from DJing into production in 2006. Discussing Glow with RAM Records, he described building tracks like stories: setting an atmosphere, gradually introducing elements, and keeping the full picture hidden until the drop. The title track also marked his first attempt at creating a bassline that sounded like a double bass.

He also releases music independently. Burning Inside Me, released in September 2021, explores the liquid side of his production. The three-track Your Return followed the next month.

Later releases include Wake Me Up, Rise Up, Supa Soundboy, and Non-Stop. He has also released with Veak, including Freedom and Rewind The Time.
