About Samurai Breaks.
Samurai Breaks is a producer and DJ whose music moves through jungle, footwork, rave, and fast four-to-the-floor rhythms. Born in Scotland and raised in Yorkshire, he developed his approach through DJing with friends and experimenting with chopped drums.
His 2020 album Acid Puma Racing Stripes on Off Me Nut Records was followed by the Turbo Rave Artillery EP on SHERELLE and Naina’s Hooversound. In 2021, he also launched Super Sonic Booty Bangers, the label and events project developed with D’tch, and received DJ Mag’s Best Breakthrough Producer award.
He builds tracks around a distinctive sound or sample before filling out the drums and bass. Writing several different kinds of tune gives him a pool of material from which to assemble an EP, finding connections once the individual ideas have taken shape.
The Wickedest EP EP on Born on Road came from learning how to connect his own sound with the label’s productions. Check This Out was the point where that balance clicked: a bassline first intended for a faster four-to-the-floor tune took on a different character when he changed the drums. His work with Napes includes Wavelord Bizniz, extending another long-running studio partnership.
