Behind the music

About Steppa Style.

Steppa Style is a reggae and jungle vocalist from Moscow, bringing English and patois lyrics into records made with producers across the international bass scene. His musical home is reggae and dancehall, with jungle providing another setting for the same voice.

He became involved with Moscow’s Trudebwoiz Cartel soundsystem and promotion crew in 2005. Its parties brought reggae, dancehall, and ragga jungle together, giving him a local setting to develop his performance while connections with visiting artists carried the music further.

See the World arrived in 2014, followed by The Mad Russian through Totally Dubwise Recordings. The latter brings in DJ Vadim, Krak in Dub, Carlton Livingston, Johnny Osbourne, and General Levy, with tracks including Reggae Gymnastics and Musical Murder.

His jungle connections include Lyrical Gun with TriXstar, remixed by Epeak, and Sound Burial with Deekline, Feyder, and Ragga Twins. Those records sit alongside a much broader reggae catalogue. Steppa Style’s part in the exchange is the vocal, with each producer finding a different rhythm for it to ride.
