Toronto Is Broken

Toronto Is Broken is the project of Christian Hoffmann, a producer based in Leicestershire whose music brings drum and bass together with metal. Born in East London, he moved to Leicestershire as a child. Guitar playing forms part of his production process, with electronic arrangements built around breaks, bass, and low-tuned riffs.

His label YANA Music began in 2019 as a route to releasing independently. The Clare album developed through that platform before its later connection with FiXT. In his own account, the freedom to release outside traditional drum and bass labels helped his metal crossover take shape.

The fourth Toronto Is Broken album, TORONTOISBROKEN, followed in December 2023. Featuring vocalists REEBZ and MC Sebotage throughout, it established a more consistent collaborative setting for the project. A subsequent DIY tour brought the three musicians together onstage, with full vocal performances incorporated into a rehearsed show.

By 2025, Hoffmann described that live experience as changing the way they wrote together. Studio sessions with the vocalists were becoming closer to band rehearsals, while his production, mixing, and co-writing work extended into REEBZ’s own material. The crossover consequently runs through both the sound of the records and the way the collaborators work.
