Behind the music

About Voltage.

Voltage is a drum and bass producer and DJ, and one third of Kings Of The Rollers with Serum and Bladerunner. His solo records cover several strands of the music, from jump-up to deeper productions and vocal tracks.

He has described the 2015 album No More Luck as an early foundation for the sound he would develop with Serum. Their partnership brought the Jupiter EP in 2016 and Strike Back LP in 2017, both on Low Down Deep Recordings. Alongside that work, releasing on Metalheadz fulfilled an ambition he had held since he began producing.

His 2020 Hospital Records album Balance Over Symmetry made room for interests that the demands of weekly club sets had often pushed aside. Written during the interruption to touring, it included synthwave, ambient passages, and reggae and dancehall influences alongside drum and bass. The opening track, So Close, deliberately stepped outside the usual tempo.

The same record includes the liquid track Save Me From Myself. Rather than making another collection shaped entirely by immediate dancefloor response, Voltage used the album to follow musical ideas he had wanted to explore for years.
