Behind the music
About Waeys.
Waeys is a Dutch drum and bass producer whose releases grew out of connections with Critical Music and Overview. The Amsterdam artist’s work has moved from compact EPs and collaborations to the broader setting of his debut mini-album, Repetition.
His introduction to Critical came in 2020 through the label’s Binary series, with its 21st volume. That year also brought Framed with Klinical and a Best Newcomer win at the Drum&BassArena Awards. He followed his Binary release with the Snoar EP in 2021, featuring Duskee, Levela, and Particle.
Collaborations continued with Take 2007, made with Unglued, while Unfinished Business appeared in the same 2022 period. These records preceded a change in working approach for Repetition, released in 2023. For the album, Waeys set aside the pressure to fit tracks to a particular mood and allowed the material to develop in its own direction.
His later Critical catalogue includes the Cloaked, Arrivata, and Still Turning EPs, continuing the relationship that began with Binary.
