Lenzman founded The North Quarter in 2016, naming it after the Leiden neighbourhood where his musical interests developed. Based in Amsterdam, the label began with his All For You EP and brought drum and bass together with hip-hop and the voices of DRS and Children Of Zeus.

Artist albums have given those connections space to develop. Lenzman and Redeyes’ Wonder Years draws on sampled funk, while Fox leads Squang Dangs in the Key of Vibes. Zero T and Onj’s Kilburn Park moves between hip-hop and drum and bass, and Satl brings two-step garage into Gloom.

Lenzman chose artists for their individual sounds rather than the size of their following, with FD and Echo Brown also appearing in the catalogue. The North Quarter’s London nights at Pickle Factory and Phonox brought that music into clubs alongside its recorded releases.
