Quite Lucky Opens Fully Funded Echoes III Writing Camp for Emerging D&B Artists

Quite Lucky Records is offering an emerging drum and bass artist a fully funded place on its Echoes III writing camp in Romania this September.

Applications are open for an emerging artist to take part in Quite Lucky Records’ third Echoes writing camp, with one fully funded place available for the eight-day project in Breb, Maramureș, Romania.

Echoes III runs from 11 to 18 September 2026, and the selected applicant will have accommodation, meals, and transport covered through a partnership between Quite Lucky Records and UniCredit Bank. The open call is aimed at drum & bass producers, vocalists, songwriters, MCs, and multidisciplinary artists, including applicants based outside Romania. Applications close on 31 August.

The chosen artist will join an announced group featuring Hugh Hardie, Javeon, T-Man, Tian, Satl, Azotic, Bogdvn, Blocksberg, Moxu, and Mihaiul. It is an unusually practical opportunity: not a contest built around a finished track, but a week of writing alongside artists from different parts of the scene, away from the usual studio routine.

A format built through previous camps

Echoes III follows earlier camps in Viscri and Cobor, two rural Romanian settings that became the basis for Quite Lucky’s Echoes documentary series. The project’s own Echoes page describes the first chapter as a week of writing and experimentation with Romanian artists and guests from Hospital Records at Alter Acoustic Studios in Viscri.

That first camp had a tangible musical outcome. In October 2025, Hospital Records released the six-track Echoes EP, created from the Viscri sessions and featuring artists including Hugh Hardie, Flava D, Unglued, Degs, Charlotte X, Blocksberg, Sub:liminal, Azotix, and soulDR!P. The release gives the broader project some useful context: the camps are designed as working spaces, and past sessions have developed into finished music as well as filmed documentation.

The second chapter moved to Cobor and was presented as another meeting point for Romanian and international artists. Quite Lucky’s account of the series places the camps at the centre of its wider work, using time, location, and collaboration to bring artists together who may not otherwise share a room, let alone a session.

What the funded place covers

For Echoes III, one emerging artist will have the full cost of the trip covered, including accommodation, meals, and transport. That removes a significant barrier for someone whose work may be ready for collaboration but whose budget does not stretch to an overseas writing camp. The call is open beyond Romania, making the selected place an international opportunity rather than a domestic development scheme.

Quite Lucky is clear that the emphasis is on creative exchange rather than a guaranteed release outcome. Music made during the camp may be considered for future release through Quite Lucky Records, but that is not a promise of signing or publication. The immediate value is the chance to write, test ideas, and build relationships across production, vocal, songwriting, and MC disciplines.

The format matters because its guest list does not reduce the week to a one-way masterclass. Established names sit alongside emerging Romanian artists and other participants, leaving room for different working methods and perspectives to meet. For a vocalist or writer, that can mean beginning with an idea or topline; for a producer, it may mean building from a collaboration that would be difficult to arrange remotely.

Quite Lucky Records grew from the Romanian drum & bass platform Quite Lucky, which was founded in 2022. Its first two Echoes chapters have already shown a commitment to connecting the local scene with artists from further afield, while keeping the process rooted in the people and places hosting the sessions.

With only one funded place available, prospective applicants should treat the deadline as the key detail. Echoes III runs in Breb from 11 to 18 September, and applications close on 31 August. Artists can submit an application through the Echoes III form.
