Adam F

Adam F is Adam Fenton, a producer and musician whose drum and bass work developed around live instrumentation as well as sampling. His debut album was Colours, released in 1997, with Circles, Metropolis, and F-Jam among the recordings associated with that period. Jazz and funk were part of his musical background: before making the album, he had performed in a funk band and learnt recording by working on his own music.

The methods behind Colours help explain its mixture of electronic rhythm and musicianship. Fenton told MusicRadar he made it in a bedroom studio with an Atari sequencer and instruments including a Fender Rhodes. That practical experience with recording and playing informed the album’s approach to drum and bass.

His career also moved into hip-hop, while Breakbeat Kaos, which he ran with DJ Fresh, became another strand of his work. Returning to his early catalogue took considerably more than a remaster. For Colours Revisited, released in February 2025, Fenton restored vintage instruments and recreated recordings, working with musicians including Julian Joseph and vocalists including Kirsty Hawkshaw and the late MC Conrad.

In his UKF account of the project, he described recovering equipment that had spent years in storage and returning to the original recording process. The revised album includes Circles Revisited and Music in My Mind Revisited. It makes this part of his catalogue available in newly recorded form, preserving the practical relationship between studio production and live playing that shaped the original.
