Behind the music

About Annix.

Annix are Konichi and Decimal Bass, two school friends from Cheltenham whose partnership grew from experimenting with music together. Long before their records reached drum and bass dancefloors, they played in bands and performed Metallica covers at school. That shared history helps explain how naturally their individual production styles come together.

DJ Hype and Pascal brought them into Playaz Recordings in 2012. Jump-up became the centre of their catalogue, but their albums and EPs gave them room for deeper, more melodic ideas too. Forever and The Dog Knows show those different approaches, with the latter also bringing Turno into the studio.

The duo have described jump-up as their most instinctive writing territory: sound design quickly suggests the shape of a track, while musical productions can take longer to settle around chords and melodies. Hype’s frank feedback became part of that process, giving them a clear idea of what needed work.

In 2020 they started Neksus Sound with Simula, opening with the K Motionz collaboration Diagram. Their aim was a dedicated home for technical, hybrid jump-up that could work across different DJ sets. Releases for Monstercat, including Droids with Maksim MC and Nocturnal with Elipsa, also document their more melodic dancefloor strand.
