DJ Hazard is the production and DJ name of Scott Molloy, a drum and bass artist closely associated with Playaz Recordings. Records including Machete Bass EP and Psychedelic established a recognisable jump-up sound, with sharply defined hooks and an emphasis on what a tune can do in a crowded room.
His approach to DJing gives some insight into that music. Discussing Fabriclive 65 with Attack in 2012, Hazard explained that he had recorded the mix in one take at home and welcomed the small imperfections. Uneven levels and slightly rough transitions could make a performance feel human; polishing every detail away was not the point.
He also described adapting his selection to the venue, moving between easier stepping records and heavier material. The distinction is useful when exploring his catalogue: a strong association with jump-up does not mean that every record he plays belongs to that style, or that his own productions can be judged from a single set.
Away from the studio and clubs, he cited Motown and reggae as listening favourites. Those interests sit alongside a practical commitment to drum and bass production, rather than proving a second genre in his released work. His interviews and longstanding Playaz connection present an artist concerned with character, variety, and a tune’s immediate effect.
