Behind the music
About Audio.
Audio is British drum and bass producer Gareth Greenall. His catalogue is often associated with heavy, technically detailed club music, but it also contains more reflective material that draws on the sounds he grew up hearing.
Beastmode LP was released on RAM Records in 2016, followed by [Unsocial] in 2021. Alongside his solo work, Greenall records with Ed Rush as Killbox, and has his own Snake Pit Records outlet. These provide distinct routes through his production rather than interchangeable names for the same project.
In his UKF interview about [Unsocial], Greenall explained that the pause in club activity during lockdown removed some of the pressure to make music for an immediate DJ response. He explored influences that had stayed with him since his teens: Lost nods to two-step garage, while Ooze This uses a pirate-radio sample. He also described the challenge of finishing heavier tracks without the reassurance of testing them on a club system. The album keeps that physical side of Audio's music, while allowing memory, mood, and a different pace of life into the writing.
