Behind the music

About Boxplot.

Boxplot is American producer and DJ Ian Sheldon, whose drum and bass carries a love of indie and punk rock. His records have become a familiar part of Liquicity’s catalogue, from Escape with the Clouds and the Tramontane EP to his debut album Here & Now.

The name has a pleasantly ordinary origin. He was living on Boxwood Lane when he chose it, and the combination of the road name and his plot of land suggested Boxplot. Racing games and pop-punk were among the inspirations he later shared with Liquicity, alongside an enthusiasm for cars that extended to working on them himself.

Escape with the Clouds appeared on Liquid Tones in 2015. A hard-drive failure soon afterwards forced him to rebuild, and to reconsider his sound as he did so. The 2017 Tramontane EP became an important step in that process, followed by the full-length Here & Now in May 2022.

He has also explored video-game music through Tetracase, a project started with Mega Flare in 2013. Across the solo records and that collaboration, the musical influences reach well beyond drum and bass, while the energy of a gig remains part of what he brings to a DJ set.
