Behind the music
About Camo MC.
Camo MC is a drum and bass MC and recording artist from Christchurch, New Zealand. His route to the microphone began with hosting youth events, introducing bands before rhyming and writing became part of the job. Years of freestyle work with DJs later developed into more structured performances and recorded releases.
In an interview with Music Industry Talk, he described studying radio after leaving school and presenting RDU's Tuesday Drive Show, including its drum and bass-focused Hour of Power. Live appearances have included Rhythm & Alps with Concord Dawn and Trikkstar, and Electric Avenue with The Nomad.
The Maple & Kiwi releases with MC Zee became a recurring recording partnership, with editions appearing in 2021, 2022, and 2023. His catalogue also includes Work Out, Te Ika-a-Māui, Ride or Die, and March!.
In February 2024, he launched Mic Check Vol. 1, mixed and selected by fellow Christchurch artist Gwarden. Recorded at Nightshift Studios with a guest appearance from MC Phantom, it brought his microphone work together with a selection spanning New Zealand producers and established drum and bass records.
