Chase & Status

Chase & Status are the electronic production duo of Saul Milton and Will Kennard. Their catalogue spans drum and bass and collaborations with vocalists and rappers, with More Than Alot arriving in 2008 and No More Idols following in 2011.

Milton and Kennard met as university students in Manchester. Their later approach to collaboration is rooted in practical studio work: vocals and musical ideas can move between styles rather than being written for a single audience. Describing the making of their 2023 mixtape, they explained how material that began as rap or drill could become drum and bass when a vocalist joined the session.

Their 2023 mixtape 2 RUFF, Vol. 1 was conceived around music they could test in clubs and play in their DJ sets. It includes Baddadan (feat. IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga & Takura), made with Bou. In 2024, their collaboration with Stormzy, BACKBONE, became their first number one on the UK Official Singles Chart.

That process also depends on playing unfinished music to crowds. The pair have spoken about testing tracks in their sets, sometimes finding that songs which later became successful received a muted response on their first outing. Club experience feeds back into their production, alongside the songwriting and vocal partnerships heard across their albums.

The duo's subsequent work includes Disgruntled (feat. J Hus & IRAH), released in 2026. Their official store also lists the forthcoming project Generic Everything for pre-order.
