SHY FX is the recording alias of London producer and DJ Andre Williams. His 1994 collaboration with Uk Apache, Original Nuttah, combined ragga vocals and jungle production. His subsequent work includes Shake Ur Body with T. Power, with whom he also co-founded Digital Soundboy.
Williams has linked that breadth to growing up with reggae, pop, and soul records, and to jungle's early openness to different musical backgrounds. He carried the same idea into his label: its purpose was to preserve that mixture of styles across different tempos. The connection is an artistic approach, rather than a requirement that every release fit a single genre.
Williams has described reggae, bass, and soul as recurring threads in his music. On Raggamuffin SoundTape, released in 2019, he brought those influences together with collaborators including Lily Allen and Stamina MC on Roll The Dice (feat. Stamina MC & Lily Allen). He described the project's 'soundtape' format as combining a mixtape's excitement with the substance of an album.
His account of making the 2019 soundtape also puts musical fit ahead of a collaborator's profile. Songs could be tested as dubplates before further vocals were added, with the choice of singer shaped by what the track needed. That studio-to-dancefloor relationship remains a useful thread through his otherwise varied catalogue.
He subsequently released Rudeboy Design Soundtape with Mr. Williamz in 2024. His later catalogue includes LA PRIMA with KINGH, issued through Digital Soundboy in April 2026.
