Behind the music
About Consouls.
Consouls grew out of a shared trip to Electric Daisy Carnival. Los Angeles producers Shane and Troy had only recently met when they attended the festival together in 2014; watching artists including Calyx & TeeBee and Andy C helped establish their common ground. A year later, winning EDC's Discovery Project put the duo on the festival's own line-up.
Their early releases included Preamble on Patrol The Skies, featuring Daniel Hunter Jones on Dreamer. They subsequently worked with Des McMahon on The Game for Get Hype Records, while Flare appeared on Technique Summer 2017.
In a 2017 UKF interview, Shane described their aim as balancing physical impact with emotion, drawing on neuro, techy, and liquid elements without committing to one box. The two shared ideas in sessions, with Flare developing from a melody Shane initially doubted until Troy encouraged them to work on it together.
Building a community around that process mattered too. Troy had met producer Wraith while studying at Icon Collective in 2012, a connection that later helped form The Database. Consouls co-founded the collective, using collaborative productions, free downloads, and podcasts to give its artists a shared outlet.
