Dan Guidance

Dan Guidance is Bristol producer and DJ Dan Guy, whose interest in drum and bass grew out of the free-party scene. He began DJing across several styles and started making music around 1998, initially working through techno, trance, and house before concentrating more closely on drum and bass. Jazz was present at home through his father, a saxophonist, flautist, and pianist.

His account of his own sound emphasises atmosphere, instrumental samples, and dub techniques. Piano, saxophone, flute, and guitar appear among the sources he has used, with delay and sampled voices recurring in his production. Soul Deep’s Instant Connection EP places that writing in liquid drum and bass, with a jungle break on This Is the Last Time.

Guidance also runs Portal Recordings, giving him a direct outlet for his own music and collaborations. He described the label as a way to control the artwork and release process as well as issue more experimental material. Its Freedom Of Movement album appeared in 2024; later Portal releases include collaborations with Fishy and Sodie.
