Deskai

Paris-born and based in Berlin since 2012, Deskai brings a drummer’s background to jungle and drum and bass. Before concentrating on electronic music, he played in bands ranging from jazz to hardcore metal. His enthusiasm for the club music of the 1990s runs through both his productions and his DJ sets, alongside interests in dub, ambient music, and techno.

That range is captured on the Atemporal EP, released by Scientific Records in 2016. Its four tracks, including Fata Morgana and Night Owl, bring atmospheric drum and bass together with rollers and jungle. His catalogue also includes releases through Warm Ears Music, Next Phase Records, and Soul Deep Recordings, as well as the Psyko Konceptor collaboration The Sky.

Deskai’s route into the scene also involved putting on parties. Working with Lenny Shogun between 2010 and 2014, he organised Subwax and Groove Station events in Paris, with residencies at venues including Le Batofar and Glazart. Winning a Renegade Hardware DJ competition took him to Berlin’s Subland to play alongside DJ Ink and Cold Fusion. Away from production and DJing, he works in mixing and mastering, with his own engineering practice dating back to 2012.
