Behind the music

About De:Tune.

De:Tune moves between bass-heavy drum and bass and the softer surroundings of a vocal song. The British producer’s catalogue includes solo EPs on ProgRAM and work with Degs, with each setting bringing a different part of his production into focus.

He made his ProgRAM debut with Hard Lessons in 2018. The follow-up, Au Revoir, arrived in 2021 with six tracks, ranging from textured melodies over driving basslines to heavier, sub-led material. Together, the two EPs show a producer developing his sound through contrasts rather than repeating a single formula.

His production on Degs’ Poveglia offers another starting point. Released by Hospital Records in May 2018, the song pairs bittersweet piano and detailed instrumentation with Degs’ sung and rapped vocal. The beat leaves space for the words, showing how much De:Tune can do without filling every gap.

The same friendships became Hologram, his production trio with Degs and Citrusfly. Formed during lockdown, the group released 404 on RAM Records in November 2021, giving De:Tune another outlet for darker, more direct club music alongside his melodic solo records.
