Behind the music

About Distress Signal.

Distress Signal brought K Motionz, Kanine, and Simula together as a production and DJ collective, with IC3 as their regular host. Launched in the summer of 2018, the project grew from friendships and repeated back-to-back bookings rather than a group of strangers assembled for a release.

Their first show took place in K Motionz’s hometown of Birmingham, before any Distress Signal music had been released. In their first collective interview, the producers explained that they wanted the project’s bookings to feature all three of them, with IC3 joining whenever his schedule allowed.

Early tracks included Earthquake and Stay. The collaboration involved both shared studio sessions and remote work, reflecting the distance between the members’ homes. Their approach to DJing drew heavily on unreleased music, combining tracks made together with individual productions.
