Behind the music
About DJ Marky.
Brazilian DJ and producer DJ Marky brings a record collector's curiosity to drum and bass. His musical interests extend into funk and disco, sounds that also appear in the edits he shares through his own catalogue.
That approach is central to his DJ Marky & Friends parties and to Innerground Records, the label he co-founded. Innerground's 100th release arrived in 2021 as a compilation bringing together its artists, with Marky contributing alongside vocalist Lorna King.
His first solo album, My Heroes, appeared in 2015. The title reflected the people and musicians who had inspired him, including his parents, giving a personal frame to a record made around an already busy DJ schedule.
The Time Is Right followed on Shogun Audio in 2023. Its 15 tracks included collaborations with Makoto and SOLAH, setting vocal songs alongside instrumental drum and bass.
For Marky, preparation does not mean deciding every transition in advance. In interviews, he has described watching dancers and changing course as their reactions unfold. The connection with an audience comes through choosing the right record at that moment, with enough freedom to surprise himself as well as the people in front of him.
