Behind the music
About DJ Rusty.
São Paulo’s DJ Rusty discovered drum and bass in 2000 and went on to combine DJing and production with running Promo Audio recordings. The label, founded in 2005, gave him a base for releasing music from Brazil alongside producers from further afield, in both vinyl and digital formats.
Jump-up is one strand of his catalogue. In a 2016 interview with Music Intelligence, he explained that he preferred to choose his labels carefully rather than release everywhere. That approach had taken him to Muzik Hertz, Liquid V, and LuvDisaster, before Changes In Heart / Trolls Everywhere brought him to DJ Marky’s Innerground Records.
The vocal on Changes in Heart came from Kayka, who responded after Rusty posted a request for a vocalist on Facebook. He produced the music and she wrote the vocal, working together through that online connection. Other partnerships include Masterwizard and T:Hertz, while his later catalogue includes The Simulation with Leandro B. Rusty’s DJ work has also taken him beyond Brazil, with appearances in England, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela.
