Behind the music

About Dub Phizix.

Dub Phizix is a Manchester drum and bass producer and DJ whose work also extends into recording and developing music outside the genre. His own SenkaSonic imprint provides an outlet for that independent approach to making and releasing records.

The Ωhmgrown series, introduced in 2018, took that independence into the whole release process. He made the music, artwork, and videos himself, building tracks from sounds he had recorded rather than relying on a library of ready-made samples.

Those recordings included guitars, drums, synthesisers, and sounds made with tablet apps. His aim was to keep the process direct: ideas and familiar tools mattered more than accumulating expensive equipment. The project put the emphasis on a producer's own choices at every stage.

He later explored a longer listening format with The Winter Songbook. Its eight tracks were arranged to connect, with recurring sounds and transitions inspired by the way a television series encourages viewers to keep watching. Released in weekly instalments, it was intended to reward listening to the complete work. That interest in structure sits alongside his established club production and his desire to make music beyond individual singles.
