Behind the music

About Ed:it.

Ed:it is Nottingham producer and DJ Ed Warrener, making drum and bass that has moved between soulful material and darker, rolling tracks. His early releases appeared through Critical Music, Demand Records, and Flexout Audio, before he joined Shogun Audio’s roster in 2016.

His three-part album Silhouettes followed in 2019, bringing the smooth and heavier sides of his music into one project. The record offers a useful starting point for listeners who know only one side of his catalogue.

The relationship with Dispatch Recordings has its own neat symmetry. Ed:it made the label’s 100th release with Telling True, then returned for its 200th with the Word Out EP in 2025. He told D&B::UK that Collecting Dust, from the earlier EP, had been a turning point in his writing. The newer project began when he sent tracks to Ant TC1 in 2023 and gradually developed into a five-track selection.

He also described learning to work with his natural pace instead of forcing a track every day. By the time of Word Out, his music had become darker and more technical, although he was still writing liquid. Taking breaks, experimenting, and letting an idea develop had become part of the process, rather than something to feel guilty about.
