Behind the music
About Future Engineers.
Future Engineers are Lee Batchelor and Keir Cleminson, whose partnership grew from a childhood friendship in north London and a shared studio in Glasgow. Hearing LTJ Bukem’s 1995 Essential Mix helped focus their interest in atmospheric drum and bass.
Their debut single, The Silence / Shattered, appeared on Renegade Recordings in 1997. A connection with Good Looking Records followed, while 2002’s Technetium EP brought a harder, techno-influenced edge to their atmospheric production.
Batchelor continued producing and running Transference during Cleminson’s long break from the project. The pair reunited in 2022 with Circadian and Immersive, followed by Larni and Disconnect in 2023. They developed their renewed collaboration by exchanging ideas online.
