Hellkitty is Bangalore-based producer and DJ Anurag Arun, whose drum and bass brings personal songwriting into contact with heavier bass music. His collaborations with vocalist Arundhati explore difficult experiences and the work of coming through them, while his role as co-founder of Screech Records puts him behind releases and nights supporting India’s underground bass scene.
Growing up with metal and punk in the early 2000s gave him an appetite for raw, energetic music. That background sits alongside the deeper, soulful influences he describes in his own productions, where city life, loneliness, and human connection provide subjects for the music.
Arundhati has become a recurring collaborator. Their single Liberate arrived in February 2024, followed by Breathe in March 2025. For the latter, Hellkitty built the production around her vocals, using angry Reese basslines to match a song about survival and reclaiming a sense of self. Its neuro D&B sound gives the emotional subject matter a forceful setting.
His collaboration with C4GE, Rush Hour, appeared on Screech’s Maximum Threshold compilation in 2025, taking a deeper, rolling approach. Together, these releases show how his interest in atmosphere can sit alongside different kinds of drum and bass production.
Hellkitty founded Screech with Hunnit D. It began with events and artist promotion, expanded into guest mixes, and became a record label in 2023. Its remit reaches beyond drum and bass into dubstep and UK garage, giving Indian producers a place to release their music alongside opportunities to play it out. Hellkitty’s own appearances include Bangalore’s Bass Baithak and Screech showcases, keeping his production work connected to the city’s dancefloors.
