Behind the music
About Kantyze.
Kantyze are the French production duo of Knockoutz and Feubo, whose work connects drum and bass with dubstep and other forms of bass music. They also run m-Atome Recordings, providing an outlet alongside releases for labels including Concussion, Fokuz, Mindtech, and Phantom Hertz.
Based in Tours during their 2016 interview with In-Reach, the pair described drum and bass as their main musical activity, while making clear that 140 BPM music had become a substantial part of their work. They had released two deep dubstep albums over the preceding two years, and said that one member was concentrating more on those slower tracks while the other focused largely on drum and bass.
Their Concussion single Get Over Here / Gipsy Curse showed the rolling, technical side of that faster material. The label placed the release within neurofunk and techstep, describing two different takes on the roller. By contrast, the Liberation Frequency EP for Phantom Hertz belonged explicitly to their deep dubstep catalogue.
The same interview offered a practical account of their writing process. As family commitments changed their studio time, they increasingly developed ideas separately, meeting to finish tracks and work on mixdowns. Rather than spending weeks forcing an unproductive sketch, they preferred to save useful elements and move on to the next idea.
