Behind the music
About Krust.
Krust is Kirk Thompson, a Bristol producer and DJ whose career spans jungle, drum and bass, and more experimental electronic music. Before his solo catalogue, he was part of Fresh 4, and later became a founding member of Full Cycle Records and the Reprazent collective.
His records have often explored the possibilities of longer arrangements. 'Soul In Motion', released in 1997, is one example, while the 1999 album Coded Language included a title track featuring spoken-word performer Saul Williams.
After time away from the usual release cycle, Krust returned to the album format with The Edge of Everything in 2020 through Crosstown Rebels. Its creation drew on interests beyond music, especially film and the way a story develops across a whole work.
He has described studying scripts and narrative structure, then applying those ideas to keyboards and electronic sound. Extended atmospheric passages and unexpected changes were part of that intention, rather than simply introductions waiting for a beat. The record provides another entry point into a career where Bristol's club music background and an interest in shaping a complete listening experience have developed together.
