Behind the music

About LM1.

LM1 is an Edinburgh producer and the director of Offworld Recordings, with an earlier recording life in progressive house as Red Devil. He began making that music in the mid-1990s before taking a break and returning through melodic drum and bass. The LM1 name is a shortened form of Luminousone, which he has described as a tribute to the Buddha.

Atmosphere and melody remain consistent reference points in his account of his own music. In a 2012 interview, he singled out pads, riffs, and melodic writing as elements that connected changes in his style. His early drum and bass work included commercially released remixes for Celldweller, before he developed the catalogue issued through Offworld and other labels.

Offworld also gave him a role beyond his own productions, selecting music and presenting the Offworld Show on Bassdrive. His recording partnerships include Airstrike on Torn Apart, Rogue State on Floorplay, and Indigo Sync on The 591. Both the LM1 collaborations and his earlier Red Devil material are available through his artist archive.
