Behind the music
About Low:r.
Low:r’s records tend to carry a little funk, whether the mood is bright and soulful or darker and more physical. His musical background began with violin and orchestral playing, before dubstep DJing and the Low:r project took him towards drum and bass. The alias itself came from a test unit at the factory where he worked.
Early releases on Different Drumz and Soul Deep Recordings led to music for Spearhead Records, Galacy, Program and Soulvent Records. Liquid became an important part of that catalogue, but he has been clear about wanting room for heavier ideas rather than repeating one version of his sound.
The Beams EP in 2021 and Beautiful Dreamer in 2022 show that range. Make The Most paired his chords with Aleya Mae’s vocal, while I Can See brought a heavier, techno-influenced approach. His SiLi collaboration Chubby Bubbler added a more playful energy, keeping the groove central as the bass took an unexpected turn.
He returned to the violin on The Journey, recording it alongside cello played by a family friend. Those older musical experiences sit naturally beside electronic production in the finished tracks. His Undercurrent events extend the same interest in music and community beyond his own releases, giving listeners another place to encounter the sounds that feed his writing.
