Behind the music
About Madmen & Poets.
Madmen & Poets are the production partnership of brothers Bass Tikal and LF Flow. Associated with Phunkfiction Recordings, the duo brought their shared interest in funk into drum and bass, with Bass Tikal describing early material as influenced by music from the 1960s and 1970s.
Their 2007 Digiphunk004 release paired Cryptic Flames with Hide Your Tears. Announcing the record, Bass Tikal explained that the brothers’ first work had included a remix of My Girl for Under Construction, while It’s Not Right appeared on Phunkfiction’s Eat Phunk! compilation.
Fokuz gathered a broader selection of their material on the two-disc Scandinavian Sunday in 2010. The collection included Leave It, Blue Velvet, and Delta Zero, as well as Naibu’s remix of Above the Rim and Lenzman’s version of Afraid of Jazz. The brothers also worked with Henree as the separate trio Triad.
