Behind the music
About Maduk.
Maduk is a Dutch drum and bass producer and co-founder of Liquicity. His music has a strong liquid strand, with melodic writing and vocal collaborations also informing his work as a DJ and his involvement in the label's wider community. Discussing Never Give Up, he described dancefloor and jungle-oriented material within its liquid sound, with some tracks also intended for listening away from the club.
His debut album, Never Give Up, appeared on Hospital Records in April 2016. Transformations followed on Liquicity in September 2021. Between them, he returned to releasing through his own label after an amicable departure from Hospital, explaining to UKF that the change allowed him to follow a more personal creative direction.
The Liquicity yearmixes offer another way into his attention to arrangement. In that interview, Maduk recalled his brother suggesting the idea in 2012 and his sister helping write and record its vocal banners. Building the mixes involved trying different combinations of tracks until two pieces fitted together so naturally that listeners could hear them as one. It is painstaking work behind a format that can sound effortless. Alongside the albums, those mixes show how his roles as producer, DJ, and label co-founder connect: selecting and joining music is part of the same interest in melody and shared listening that shapes his own records.
